Sukhoi fan? is ;
A fan of a Japanese soccer team ie. the Hiroshima Suckois or something like that right? Hey i got nothin against American Japanese!, as long as there not Japanese Americans.

The arctic only weighs only 76 lbs. The gp is 130 lbs. I ordered from them there prices are cheaper on there ebay site. But UPS killed me . I ordered the tent stoves -- invaluable and lightweight.

Blue Ice;; You are an Army of ONE!!!:sarcasm:

Hey if you're going to spend that much, shoot for a kifaru. (kifaru.net) They have a 16' probably the same price but weighing the least. An 12-man weighs what, 14lb?

If not that, why not a tipi or reenactment tent? These people lived in tents for quite a long time, and without jeeps to carry them in.

If you think $2000 might be useful elsewhere, look for the tent-barns available from many farm-catalogs. They can also go up on looped PVC like a greehouse, and I doubt you'll find cheaper rates.

Re: Been checking on tents

I own a few tents.

NorthFace VE25 is an almost bombproof 4 season mountaineering expedition tent that will do it all.

The 10man arctic with liner is an excellent tent for extended stays, easy to pitch, relatively lightweight at about 60lbs w/o liner. Has a asbestos flap for stovepipe. With a barrel or shepherds stove you are set! A guy I know spent the Winter near Fairbanks and was quite comfortable, even at -60F.

The 16x32 Army tent is bit of a doozie to handle, but you can put the whole thing in the back of a Suburban and two strong men could handle it, lots easier with 4. Put it in an ATV trailer and head for the hills. With a liner and 2 barrel stoves you have 500sq ft of housing. Nice to have a take apart floor for semi-permanent installations.

The Yurt or TeePee is a good design for wilderness living, according to my reading. See a lot of Yurts up here. Some are setup for year-round living.

If you envision a nomadic lifestyle, or intend to bugout, you may as well provide for all your comforts. A few heavy duty tarps can be rigged to make any wikkyup (sp?) relatively air-tight and waterproof. Staying warm and dry is where its at!
